I'm still trying (off and on) to record my old LPs as MP3 files. I had no luck
trying to come out of a phono pre-amp to the mic input on my sound card. The
latest effort is to use an Ion U Record USB interface.
I am running Karmic and Audacity 1.3.9. If I dual boot into Windows XP and
install the Windows version of Audacity, it works fine. But this is my main
computer and I don't want to leave it in Windows or go through the hassle of
rebooting into Windows whenever I want to copy a disc.
When I boot into Windows XP Pro under Virtual Box, the recorded audio is very
watery/warbly, and it has lots of popping and crackling. The Line/Mic/Mixer box
by the volume control is gray'ed out.
When I run Audacity directly under Gnome, I get no audio in. The recording
device in all cases is the TI USB Audio Codec. When running Audacity under
Gnome, there is a drop-down menu by the volume control that allows me to select
between Mixer, Mic, Front Mic, and Line, but these don't appear to have any
effect.
Any suggestion?
