sshd problem

Date: Jan 04    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 215

I'm trying to setup sshd so that I'm able to access my home machine
from outside. My current setup is a Speedstream 4100 DSL modem that
uses PPPoE connected to a Linksys WRT54GL router. I've run lokkit to
enable sshd (though I get an "iptables: Chain already exists"
notification, though it never seems to save the enabling of ssh in
lokkit) and restarted /etc/init.d/ssh with no success. From my other
machine ssh simply times out when trying to connect. I've googled to
see other specific problems related to enabling sshd but other than
walking through lokkit and enabling it I haven't had much success.

Have you set your
/etc/hosts.deny
/etc/hosts.allow
files?
If so, have you tried w/o using lokkit?

By default, the ssh server is not installed. So, you will need to install
"openssh-server".

I did, though I will make sure
openssh-server is installed and also look at /etc/hosts.deny and
/etc/hosts.allow
