What are optional packages and how are they used? When the Java 2[tm]
platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) was first introduced, only one
configuration and one profile had been defined. Today, there are
nearly forty J2ME-related specifications at various stages in the Java
Community Process. Many of these specifications define optional
