image management questions

I am a proficient end user and have just switched to Ubuntu 7.04, Fiesty
Fawn. Joy. Bliss. Freedom. We are going to switch the kids' computers
over soon.

Our family generates a lot of photos and videos, which we store and access
exclusively online. We currently use Picasa web albums for photos and
YouTube for video.

I installed Picasa on my now Ubuntu running machine (Gateway Pentium 4, not
sure what other info to share?) and am not pleased with it. It will not
support video, so I have to use F-spot for video management. I don't like
using 2 different programs; I've already lost some images that way.

So, here are my (current) boggles....

1. How can I uninstall Picasa?
I went to a terminal and entered:
dpkg --purge picasa
I got the following message:
dpkg: requested operation requires superuser privilege

We do not have multiple logins, so I am not sure what this means?
I cannot uninstall it from the "Add/Remove Programs" option- Picasa does
not show up there as a choice.

2. What is the best image AND video organizer/editor available to me as a
Ubuntu user? Does it talk with Picasa web albums, i.e. will it allow me to
upload image directories rather than one image at at time? F-spot is OK,
but not as intuitive and easy to use as I would like.

3. Is there a preferred web-based service that will host images AND video,
AND interface nicely with Ubuntu? I like YouTube because it generates
traffic to my blogs, but I am open to other suggestions, especially ones
that will simplify the management of these files. Oh, and it must be
basically free. I don't mind paying for extra storage at some point down
the line, but I can't feel good about monthly fees.

4. Is there an Ubuntu compatible uploader for Picasa web albums?

I can't speak to your image questions, but if you type 'sudo' in front of
any admin level command like dpkg --purge that will take care of that error
for you. It will prompt you for your password after you enter it. That's how
Debian-based installations like Ubuntu handle user privileges.

Mybe you problems with video is caused because you don't have all codecs needed.
So to have all codec type this in you terminal:

sudo aptitude install ubuntu-restricted-extras libxine-extracodecs
gstreamer0.10-plugins-base gstreamer0.10-plugins-good \
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad gstreamer0.10-pitfdll

Note: Allways you'll instal or remove you need use the command sudo (super user
do), and type the password.

Now you can see all your videos from youtube.com

to unistall picas type:
sudo dpkg --purge picasa
or try System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager
clic on the bottom search and type picasa.

The rest I can't understande exactly what you want
