I am not saying for or against it, but, I am not aware that Kier
Thomas has put any copyleft, cc or gpl license on his book
http://pragprog.com/titles/ktuk/ubuntu-kung-fu
based on the previous url to a book on Ubuntu, that book was about 18
months out of date, but Ubuntu Kung-Fu is still in print and describes
the latest LTS release.
Are the morals of the group such that paying for anything is bad so
lets rip everyone off regardless, even people who give a great deal
without seeking a return? Do we take the high ground and stick to the
principles laid down in any license, thus if you want people to use
GPL as intended we should respect other forms of licenses, even those
of microsoft? Does it matter? Is it a case of those who want to do
things one way or another should be allowed whatever the implications?
I am sure Mr Monk has creamed enough downloads to keep him with
rapidshare for another month, goodness knows what he downloads with that!
The reason I came into using Ubuntu was a License I respected and was
legitimately free. I know many use Linux because they do not want to
pay for any software and they may use bent versions of Windows too,
but does this list support the promotion of warez, counterfeits and
rip-offs? Some of us find it hard enough to make money from our Linux
knowledge as it is.
I do not want this to be a flame war, the group should look at what it
seems to be promoting.
