BOINC problem

Date: Jan 07    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 221

Anybody running BOINC with Ubuntu? I just
installed BOINC with the intention of running SETI, but the BOINC manager
tells me it can't connect to my computer at localhost. When I try to attach
to SETI, it tells me it has to connect to a computer first. I'm not sure
what to try next.

I figured out how to install the SETI application via ADEPT.

I am. There has been some discussion on this in the seti clubs.
Did you get boinc from boinc or from synaptic?
When you got it running, Im guessing you filled in your data by hand.
Are you running a firewall?

I was finally able to get SETI going by installing it from ADEPT (I'm running
Kubuntu). As soon as it was installed, I was able to input the data by hand,
from an email in my Windows partition that had the data. Once I figured out
to use ADEPT, it all just fell into place.

Just this morning, I installed Firestarter, so I am now running a firewall,
although I'm still having some growing pains with it.

One crazy problem I'm having right now is that I can't figure out how to exit
BOINC and completely kill BOINC and SETI -- when I select FILE/EXIT, they
both keep running as shown on KDE System Guard.
