Annoying watermark!

Date: Feb 05    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 264

Does anyone out there know how to get rid of the "AMD Unsupported Hardware"
watermark in Ububtu 11.04. I have followed all the wiki directions with no
luck. I have a brand new AMD A3850 FM1 processor on a Gigabyte A75 Board, no
discrete graphics card and 8MB memory. I am using the Ubuntu version of fglrx
because I cannot the one I download from AMD to work at all. I get no display at
all (Terminal with no X and X will not start). All the graphica work fine and
the computer is super fast but I really want to get rid of that watermark. I
have tried other Linux distros and they all seem to have this mark as well.

Have a look here - appears to be just a matter of changing the path to
driver ...

I gave that a try and I got stuck in the Ubuntu purple screen when I
tried to log back in. (I waited for 30 min. crashed out, and got the same thing
again on reboot.) I think I am just going to give up and wait and see if an
update from Ubuntu comes out soon to fix it. The system works fine, I built it
from the ground up and I am very pleased with the performance. I was using open
suse on my previous system and my new system didn't like that distro at all!
(Funny as that the distro that AMD lists on their website!) Thanks for the
response. I appreciate any help I can get and I'll try anything once! I keep all
my personal data on an external drive so a reinstall is no big deal for me. I
hope they fix it soon though, it really is annoying and when I try to impress
upon my friends how good linux is, (which I have been doing for years now!) They
seem to think that there must be something wrong with my OS to get that mark!
