Question Answered By: Adah Miller   on Jan 04

I read that page Gobby posted about the difference of Lin and Win.
And Dave, your right about 3.1 and 95 + 98!
What amazes me is, I get businesses and schools asking for something
that (just) works, and is cheaper than a Vista upgrade or a iMac, so I
show them Ubuntu on a $700 computer that is rock solid and they say,
"oh, I cant use that. I dont see the start button. That doesnt look like
MS." Then they try it out and say, I think out 98 systems are better
than this. Of course they forget that they crashed literally daily. They
had to keep 10 computer techs on the payroll instead of 1. OH! and of
course all the security problems they were always concerned with. One
business was afraid to do business online because IE was so insecure. I
give them Ubuntu and they "cant" use it because they might have to learn
to do something a bit different.

I get a bit hot on this topic as of late but in the end, (I want to say
its been difficult for me to come around to linux as well. I had to get
out of my MS thinking and into 'another way' thinking mode) its been a
very smooth overall transition. There are things Im doing now that I
still cant do on Windows. And with Vista on the market, I cant even
secure that thing at all.

I would love to say, "Hey. If your not open to a better life by doing
something a bit differently, dont try Linux!" But that isnt nice.
However, it is the truth. As long as you are open to seeing how another
way of doing things can work (maybe) better, or just plain work, then
you have the ability to become a linux person as well.
